We can be heroes, just for one day

Well, the game on Sunday was more than worth the wait. I cannot believe how fucked we are and not in just one way but a couple (at least for some of us). I admit we were all nervous about just what was coming down and we should have been. It turned out better and worse then we hoped. Unfortunately, Nate's player (Josh) couldn't be there. With that, let's begin.

One more thing, I know that a few people read this and just want all to know that I welcome comments. Also, bonus points to anyone that recognizes all the songs I use in the titles. Just my way of keeping the right head space for the entries.

After the meeting broke up, everyone headed back into the observatory proper. Romulus came up with an idea for the batteries he had created and went out to get a cattle prod. Luckily, this being LA, he was able to find an open surplus store that had what he needed. Cattle prod in hand, he started back to the observatory. While he was gone, Chloe followed Jack around until they ended up in the kitchen.* She desperately wanted to know just where her mother was and she was determined to get him to tell her. For a bit, Jack tried to deny that he knew but eventually told Chloe that her mother had gone with the Technocrats. To Chloe, this only meant one thing; her mother was dead, killed by the Technocracy. This was just too much for her to handle. All the grief, anger, pain...everything dealing with her mother's death was "locked" away in her mind (via Mind spell) where it wouldn't effect her. She couldn't function if she didn't do that. Jack told her that her mother wasn't dead. Not believing him, Chloe asked if he had ever heard of a mage leaving the Technocracy headquarters once they were in there. He pointed out the two Traditions that had left them. Chloe pointed out that the Technocracy had a kill on sight order for the two and all other non-technocracy mages. Stalemate. Frankly, no matter what he said, or ever says later, she will never believe him. Her mother is dead.

Two more things about the whole Jack/Chloe thing. First, Calvin! spent the entire time hovering around Chloe making sure she would be okay. Which was sweet, really. Second, in the Horizon Realm, Jack had seemed sad, hurt, and resigned to what had happened. In the kitchen, he was short, angry, and impatient with Chloe, which really confused and hurt her. He was/is her teacher for Entropy and they always got along great. When things settle a bit, she will be asking him about it. She had a few ideas of why he was like that but it wasn't the time to bring it up.

By this time, Jack had made it back to the Observatory and had gone back into the Horizon Realm to work on his idea. He wanted to attach his "special" batteries to the cattle prod and make a one time use super weapon. Skip was still there and took great interest in what Romulus was doing. The two of them spent most of the night geeking out on experiments and gadgets. Eventually, Romulus got tired and decided to just crash there, which he did.

After the kitchen fiasco, Calvin! left Chloe and sat down to email his sister. He wanted to write to her one last time, just in case things really turned out bad the next night. Chloe went upstairs to see if Brand wanted to go see Christian. She had managed to get a picture of Romulus when he came back from his shopping trip. Brand was sleeping but that didn't stop her. She turned on the light and asked him if he still planned on being her babysitter. He grumpily got up and got dressed. She did comment that his boxers were pretty cute but got no reply. They headed back downstairs, where Calvin! heard them leaving. He asked if they wanted him to come along and Chloe said yes. The three of them headed out.

On the way to Christian's, Calvin! drove, Brand was stoic, and Chloe peppered him (Brand) with questions. How old was he? Did he have a girlfriend? Or did he have a boyfriend? Did werewolves mate for life?** And so on, until they got to the studio, which was closed. They knocked and the door was eventually opened by a pissy looking vampire. Chloe told him to let Christian know that she had brought the photo. He did and returned, looking even more pissy, to let them in. As they walked down the hall, Chloe told Brand that she would get that stick out of his ass. He bit back a reply and they all headed onto the movie set. After seeing Christian naked on the bed, the men decided to stay on the other side of the room. Chloe wasn't worried; she's the wrong sex for him. As she walked out of hearing range, Brand commented that maybe he should stick something up her ass to get her to shut up. Calvin! laughed at that and agreed. More male bonding observations about females followed.

When she got to the bed, Christian patted the spot next to him and told her to climb on. She did so. Chloe showed him the picture and asked him to start talking. He said to give him the picture first. After a bit of back and forth, she did and he told her to start asking the questions. She gave him the picture of Petite again. Christian said that he remembered seeing her in the 50's. She was a little girl then and her aura was black. She was also with a man, her father. At that time, California was in the process of becoming an Anarchist area and that her father was helping the Diablists in some way. He went on to tell her that every decade seemed to bring something out from underneath. In the 60's, it was the Changelings that had the confrontation. The Mages were involved in the 70's incident. During that time, he and Jack had some sort of disagreement. Jack apparently wounded Christian; the end result of that being both agreed to avoid the other. In the 80's, it was the Werewolves and Bastets. He had actually helped the were creatures with their fight. He went into the sewers with them and helped them defeat the tentacle thing with the Spear of Longinus, which he had in his possession. Chloe asked him if he would help them or, at least, let them borrow this spear thing. He emphatically declined both options. She also found out that our favorite gangster Tommy just so happens to be Jack's son. That was all he could remember right then but he promised to call her if he thought of anything else. Chloe will definitely keep on him about remembering stuff. But, she'll do it in a nice way.

After the meeting with Christian, the three of them headed over to Rapture to let Genaro know that the fight was scheduled for tomorrow. It was about 4am when they got there, so the place was closed. No problem. They stood outside while Calvin! yelled up to Genaro. Genaro responded by dropping a brick on them, which Calvin! caught. They went in and headed upstairs to the living quarters. Genaro greeted then totally naked. He had some very interesting piercings...in some very interesting (and erect) places. Calvin! took his Fey ring off to spare himself the image of the naked, erect, bloody Redcap. Brand just turned around and headed downstairs. Chloe wasn't bothered by it all. In fact, she complimented him on the piercings. She ignored him when he commented that they felt even better inside. Calvin! and Chloe told him tomorrow was the night and both politely declined his invitation to join in the group sex thing.

After all that, they headed back to the Observatory to get some much needed sleep.

Thus ends the first part of the game. I swear there will be more stuff from other people. I promise!

* The first part of this blog is going to be very Chloe-centric. The others do much more in part 2. Unfortunately, I can only go into the motives/mind of my character. That is why I tell the other players and the GM to add more of the other's POV in the comments or email me about them so I can add everything to this.

** There is a perfectly good reason why Chloe does this to Brand and she would tell him, if he asked. She has an insatiable curiosity about people, events, and things. By asking him question after question without giving him a chance to think too much, she will eventually get some truthful answers out of him. She has to break him out of stoic mode. She uses different techniques with the others. Calvin! is just an open book. For Romulus, she just has to look at Skip, that is who he is/is becoming. For Nate, she just has to look at what he is reading to know him and his motivations.

  1. Heh. I want to point out a couple things about Brand. First, he's based (loosely) off a character Jay made for City of Villains, personality wise. Though they are definitely different, some things are the same... and some things people react to in the same way. In CoV, my character pestered him with questions too because he would never talk and thus, he probably had something interesting to say. I find it fascinating that Chloe does the same thing with this version.
