It starts with one thing

I am sorry for taking so long to get this posted. I wish I had some grand excuse but I have been lazy. I will tell everyone this may not be in sequential order. There was so much going on, it was hard to get it all down straight.

The Dresden game on Sunday was a hell of a ride. We had a trial, some detective work, a ball, a death, and a kidnapping  I will try and get it all in and keep it straight but...no promises. As for what happened, the four of us may not be the most powerful people in the Big Easy but we sure are making the most enemies. If we keep this up, we will need to get one hell of a power base consolidated.

After a three month hiatus, we picked up with our intrepid troublemakers doing various things. During the downtime, Michelle and Sharee had been doing business stuff. Jack had been doing Warden stuff. Finally, Davi had been doing Knight of the Cross stuff. Time wise, we and the city are getting geared up for Mardi Gras. Let the monsters loose and the parties begin!

It started with Michelle and Sharee contemplating the arrival of Adam's new "son", baby Ian. There was no way in hell they were going to let that child remain in Adam's grasp. After a bit of a search, Sharee came across a newspaper story about a kidnapped baby from a small town just outside of the city. While looking for information about the baby, she also did some research about Tommy's possible birth family. She was able to come up with three leads. Two were in New Orleans; one was in Shreveport. We decided that Mardi Gras made for the perfect excuse to meet these families and see what we could find out.

One other incident of note happened to Michelle. Since it was previously an effective form of communication, she left a note on her door asking Martin for a visit. He showed up one night and they had a surprisingly pleasant conversation. This time no eyeballs were gouged out. Yay! She thanked him for the check and asked about the newest BCV (going to use abbreviations) who had taken over the Ghuls. He gave her an address located in the warehouse district. Michelle then told Martin about Davi's promotion to KoTC. It wasn't in threatening way but more in a 'bad things will happen if you two meet up' way. Even though she shouldn't, she likes Martin. Doesn't trust him a bit but likes him.

Over at Jack's, he had his own problems to deal with. He had caught a 17 year old Warlock and was holding him captive at his apartment. Not wanting to kill him right away (like he should have done, according to the Warden Handbook), he placed a call to Edinburgh to set up a meeting to discuss the situation. The downside to that was he had a young boy trapped in his place until the meeting.

It was then Sharee's turn. She and Thomas went to the movies and, as they came out afterwards, they noticed two men walking towards them. Both were impossibly handsome and pale. They came up to Sharee and one introduced himself as Ben Wraith. If you guessed they were WCVs, you were right. Ben (who we will see more of later) proffered an invitation to Sharee and explained it was for an upcoming ball celebrating the elevation of his father to Duke.

Davi also received an interesting invite of sorts. His was an email. In it, a friend asked him to come to a hotel room as soon as he could. When he got there, he met up with this person by the name of Timmy. Timmy was paranoid as hell. Before he opened the door, he asked Davi what he used to do to him all the time in high school. The answer was give him swirlies. Seems our Davi was a bit of thug when younger. Timmy was the person Davi had asked for help earlier in researching the coin. According to Timmy, since then he had felt like he was being watched. That something was after him. He also mentioned footprints outside his windows that didn't look...human. So, he was running scared. Davi decided that safest place for him was not at the hotel but either at Michelle's shop or the local Catholic Church. Neither place sounded good to Timmy, so Davi decided to take back to his place. Davi and Timmy then left the Hotel. As they headed to Davi's van, Davi noticed a guy watching them. He wasn't able to get a good look but was able to tell that the watcher was short, pudgy, and wearing a trenchcoat.

Jack's day then got a little more interesting. That morning, two men showed up on his doorstep...two impossibly gorgeous, pale men. Yep, it was Ben and his companion. They gave Jack his invitation to the ball. They also noticed the young man in Jack's apartment and emphasized that the invitation included a plus one. Jack was not amused.

Next on the invite list was Michelle. Ben caught up with her at Curiosity. Not too much bantering occurred. Just because Michelle is having sex with Blue does not mean all WCVs are her friends. She kept it short and businesslike.

After Sharee got to the shop, Michelle went to Davi's house. She had started combat training with him as another form of defense. While there, she got to meet Timmy. She was not impressed, especially after he told her that he used regular table salt for his circles of protection (any idiot knows that you do NOT use processed salt for that!). He also got freaked out when Tbone made his appearance to say hi to Michelle. Davi and Michelle decided to bring Jack and Sharee over to help with the protection stuff. Whom or whatever was stalking Timmy needed to be kept out. That meant some heavy duty protection spells.

After she left Davi and Timmy, Michelle met up with Sharee to check out the two possibilities for Tommy's birth family. They decided to use Mardi Gras as their excuse for the visits. They claimed they were collecting donations for a couple of the parade floats and that the money would be used to help poor and orphaned children. The first possible was definitely not it. There was no family resemblance at all. The second possibility was heartbreaking. The man lived in an old, dirty, brokendown apartment. He was old, dirty and brokendown. The resemblance to Tommy was unmistakable though. Both of them then noticed a picture on the coffee table of a smiling woman and a baby. They had found who they were looking for. Even worse, Sharee learned that Tommy's mother had committed suicide on the one year anniversary of his disappearance. All that made Sharee more determined to tell Tommy the truth about himself.

It was then time for Michelle and Sharee to pick up Jack and get back to Davi's. They got there and were instantly suspicious when Jack wouldn't let them into his apartment. After hearing the young man yelling, Michelle forced her way into his place. Jack used magic to silence the youth and explained that he was a Warlock and that he was waiting on a meeting to decide what to do with him.

They got back Davi's and freaked Timmy out again by chatting away with Tbone and shorting out some of his surveillance equipment. Michelle used KTS on him and saw a small black disc on his back, which was pulsating slightly. She informed all there that Timmy was bugged and that it would have to be dealt with, which Jack did. During that, it came to Davi's attention that he had a visitor outside. Michelle followed him out and watched as he crossed the street and greeted whomever was there. She tried using KTS but she heard the word "no" and had her power shut down. The short pudgy man was Longinus, another demon coin holder that Davi had dealt with before. Longinus had greeted him as Kuzeal and didn't seem impressed when Davi told him that wasn't who he was anymore. Davi then warned him away from Timmy. However, Longinus didn't seem to concerned with the warning. He implied that Timmy was in the running to become the next demon imbued coin holder.

Inside the house, Timmy was in great pain as Jack attempted to pull the tracking bug off him. He was finally able to do so and Timmy fainted from the ordeal. When Davi returned to the house, Michelle decided to use KTS on him and Sharee. There were too many people/things running about with the ability to influence others. She just wanted to check. With Davi, she saw that he was the same as before except the protector image was stronger. He carried a longsword from the crusades (remember, in real life the sword he weilds is a katana) and he now had a golden halo of light around him. Sharee was also pretty much the same as before. Michelle has seen that her magic potential was skewed but she now knew this was because it was from a Fey source. She also saw the presence of Jaboo about her- a slight taint. When she mentioned this to Sheree, Sheree answered that the spirits were always about. Michelle wasn't so sure but didn't say anything more. What she saw wasn't a presence; it was a taint.

So ends part one of the game. Jack, Sharee, and Michelle all went home to get some sleep. However, Davi decided to play investigator. What happened to him and what followed will be coming soon in the exciting conclusion to the game!

Know your enemy

Once again, it's time for the gaming post. I figured I better do it before everything that happened runs together and I forget something important. Unfortunately, Calvin! does not appear in this blog, as Matt couldn't make it on Sunday. Not too much action this time but we did manage to set up one hell of a fight for the next Mage session. So, with that being said, let's start.

The game started with everyone at the observatory. Nate was studying, as usual, and managed to come up with some more information about the type of entropy the Nephandi used. At Chloe's request, he was also able to find an old article by a mage who theorized that Prime could be used to counter the Nephandi's entropy. Chloe was able to get ahold of her mother and pass that information along. Nothing much else happened and the three of them (Romulus, Chloe, and Nate) called it a night. They planned to try and break through the time block at Calvin's! house the next morning and needed their sleep.

The next morning, Chloe set up a meeting with Brooklyn, president of Titan Industries and a werewolf. The meeting was necessary for two reasons: 1) They needed Brand to go along with them to Calvin's! and 2) They wanted to offer an alliance with the werewolves to gain their help against the coming bad things. Brooklyn seemed interested in the idea of an alliance but turned it into a "This is what we have to offer; what do you have to offer" business proposition. She wanted to know if we spoke for our Chantry and set up a meeting for later that night to discuss the details of the possible alliance. We did manage to get Brand to go with us, which was a plus.

Getting to Calvin's! house, Chloe was able to break through the time block and to see just what happened. Casey was sitting there, when she suddenly looked around and seemed to melt from view. Right after she did that, the door opened and in walked our favorite Nephandi, Shade. We REALLY have to kill him. He was followed by a group of people that looked...sickish? Anyway, not healthy. Still watching through the time spell, Chloe was able to tell Romulus, Nate, and Brand how the group of people with Shade turned into werewolves and stalked Casey through the house. By her description, Brand was able to confirm they were Black Spiral Dancers, very bad werewolves. After a struggle, one managed to knock her unconscious. There was one other person at the house but he stayed in the doorway. He was a 30ish looking male (obviously, by the pronoun he), perfectly groomed, with blond hair, blue eyes, and wearing an immaculate black suit. He told the wolves and Shade to take Casey back to the Hive and to inform Crom about it. He then told Shade to do his time magic thing and walked out. The wolf holding Casey put her into the car and started to rape her. They needed her alive, everything else they wanted to do to her was fair game. Mage is NOT a nice world and bad things happen...a lot. Chloe didn't go into specifics but she did get the point across to the boys about what was happening. Needing to know where they were taking Casey, Chloe came up with an idea. She would keep the time spell going and Brand would follow them in real time by using what she "saw". Nate and Romulus were in charge of turning lights the right colors, so they could stop and go just as the cars they were following did. It actually worked great; I was so proud of us! After a bit, they got to the place were they took Casey. It made Sadies look like an amusement park. The Hive was on a very powerful node (a place of power) and it was not a good place. The amount of pain and rage coming off that place was so strong, it was tainting the entire neighborhood. There was no way they could have gone in there. It would have been suicide. Brand didn't hesitate; he took off and drove around for a few hours, making sure we weren't being followed. He even ditched the car and we ended up walking to Romulus' apartment. He had to go to work.

Brand, Chloe, and Nate had to wait for a ride back to Titan Industries. Once we got back there, we told Brooklyn what had happened to Casey and where they took her. She told us that the place we went to was the headquarters of a company called Pentex. They have been around since the 1800's and got their start in the oil drilling business. Nowadays, anything that was destroying the environment; oil spills, deforestation, toxic waste dumps, they would have a part in it. She also made it clear that she wouldn't send in any of her people to rescue Casey; she basically had written her off. This did not sit well with Nate, Chloe, and especially Brand. After a bit of not too comfortable conversation, Nate and Chloe left. As they headed down the hall, they heard quite the ruckus coming from Brooklyn's office.

After leaving Brooklyn and Brand, the two of them stopped by a club (called Rapture) owned by some Fey they knew. Chloe was interested in talking to them about a possible alliance. Frankly, she would have welcomed any help from just about anybody at that moment. So, they showed up and were greeted by Geneva (a satyr) and her twin brother Genaro (a redcap). They headed up to the office for a chat, where Chloe and Nate told them about what is going on and asked for their help in the fight. Chloe and Nate didn't have much success with that. However, Nate was able to get them a concerned a bit when he mentioned that there could be no more dreamers from all this. Also, Chloe showed them the pictures of Shade and Petite and asked if they knew them. Turned out, they did. In fact, they were patrons of Rapture and had left a few times with customers. Nate pointedly asked if they (Geneva and Genaro) had ever seen those customers again. Geneva answered, a bit uncomfortably, no. Chloe was a bit more direct. She asked if, the next time they saw either of them, they would kill them. She got the same answer...no. However, she was able to get them banned from the club.

There was one more interesting bit of conversation, which pertained to Chloe and a previous adventure. In the prelude to the main story, Calvin!, Chloe, and Romulus had been charged with stealing a Fey artifact back from the Technocracy. They actually managed to break into Technocracy headquarters and get it and not get killed. Well, they then managed to lose it, thanks to the Ash Leopard (don't ask). The mirror was to have been given to Countess Fiona, the head of the Summer Court. Turns out, the Ash Leopard was working for Count Sam, head of the Winter Court. So, we were summoned to the Fey Court and had to explain what happened. We weren't able to prove anything but the Ash Leopard was banished. What happened next was not Chloe's fault. It was Nate's. Okay, it was a little bit her fault but it was mainly Nate's. When they were presented, Nate basically drew all the attention to Chloe and made her stand out. Chloe didn't help matters. When the Count looked her over, she caught his eye, smiled, and gave him quite the challenging look. Nothing happened that night and she didn't think much more about it. And before you ask, yes, Calvin! managed to sleep with the Countess. Now, back to the present.

Before leaving, Chloe gave Geneva her phone number and she said, "If anything changes, I'll call the ice princess." Or, something like that. Chloe, with her flaw of curiosity, asked her what she meant by that. According to Geneva, the Count was interested in Chloe. I think her exact statement was, "Word is the Count has a hard on for you and has people looking for you."  Chloe just smiled at that and replied, "Next time you see the Count, give him a message from me. Tell him the ice princess says catch me if you can." Geneva really didn't want to but Chloe really hopes she does. By nature and demeanor, Chloe is a risk taker/thrill seeker who has complete faith in her ability to survive anything. Of course she was interested and flattered and would really like to meet the Count one on one.

Deciding that it was time for something to eat, Nate and Chloe went to the coffee shop where Romulus works. While there, Chloe called Jack and asked him what his thoughts were about the coming meeting. She wanted to get some guidelines about what to offer, if approval would be forthcoming from the other chantry members, and when to walk away. Jack told her to use her best judgement; that allies would be nice but to tell them to fuck off if the terms were too one-sided. Then, it was off to the meeting.

When we got there, we were ushered into a conference room, where Brooklyn and all her staff were waiting, She seemed a bit surprised that it was just the three of us. One thing we all noticed was that Brand was sporting a very fresh wound on his face. So, the meeting began. Nate and Brooklyn verbally sparred a bit. I really wish I could remember what Nate said. I do remember it being hugely insulting. Before things got too out of hand, Chloe spoke up and said that getting Casey was a part of the alliance and was NOT negotiable. There was some more sparring between Nate, Romulus, and Brooklyn about what we could offer them and what we could do. Getting fed up, Chloe decided to just show what we could do. Slamming her hands onto the table, she used Entropy to turn it to dust. Romulus then used Matter to reform it. That got every ones attention. Unfortunately, that didn't help with the terms. Brooklyn did not give on the issue of Casey. Finally having had enough, Brand spoke up and told her that we were right and she was being a fool. She then asked him if he wanted another lesson like the one she had given him earlier (that explained the wound). He didn't back down and Brooklyn kicked him out of the pack. Her loss was our gain. Having Brand as a part of our group will help quite a bit.

Finally getting back to the observatory, Nate did some more research on the name Crom and found a bit of information. At least we hoped that it was the same guy. Apparently a man by the name of Lazarus Crom had worked for a time at Global Dynamics- the Technocracy headquarters. There wasn't any mention of what happened to him but Nate found some articles dealing with debunking his theories. The plot thickens!

While Nate was researching Crom and Romulus was talking to Skip, Chloe went out for a bit. She had a fairly important errand to run. Brand went with her, which made her a bit nervous. After getting his promise to be good, Chloe went to see Christian. She knew he had the information they really needed. By using Romulus' name, they were able to get in to see Christian. Chloe got straight to the point. She wanted to know what he wanted from her in trade for his information. His price, a picture of Romulus. She agreed to that after he assured her he wasn't going to do some weird vampire spell thing with it. Before Brand and Chloe left, she showed him the pictures of Shade and Petite and asked him if he knew them. Touching the pictures, he answered no to the one of Shade. However, when he touched the picture of Petite, he said he knew her but not by that face. He recognized the soul. The meeting ended with Chloe telling him she would get the picture of Romulus to him soon.

Thus ends the session. We really couldn't do much more until Matt (Calvin!) was with us. It's going to be one hell of a fight.

As long as you'll be my friend at the end

It turned out to be a very interesting session. It was the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next great story arc. There was betrayal, redemption, a few fights, and a tragic death. Let's get started then.

It all started at Michelle's shop. She was there with Jack and Jim, cleaning and repairing the place when she got a call from Kincaid (the Archive's protector). He told her where and when the duel was going down. And, by the way, Arthur had declared it would be combat. Fuck! Michelle stood firm on her resolve to be her own champion. Kincaid seemed impressed with that but what else could she do? It was an attack on her shop, against her neutral ground. Most importantly, the attack had hurt someone (Sharee) there, while she was Michelle's responsibility. So, that was that.

Coming to a decision, Michelle called and left a message for Sharee to come to the shop. When she got there, they went to get a bite to eat and that was when Michelle proposed taking Sharee as her heir to her shop and the neutral ground. That way, Sharee could have the protection as a member of the Accords but would not be under the control of the White Council. It would also give Sharee a purpose and Michelle knew her shop would not fall into enemy hands if she died during the duel. Sharee agreed. Warden Weststone got the paperwork ready and sent it off.

After all that, it came time to try and get the mask back from crazy Uncle Jacob. That turned into a party and a half, thanks to Jack. Crazy Uncle lives on a island in the bayous that is covered with dolls hanging from the trees. Definitely creepy. So, Sharee, Jack, and Michelle head out there and things are going pretty well at first. Uncle had given the mask to a Loa called Jaboo, who really didn't want to give it up. However, Jaboo's attitude took a turn when Jack proposed to trade the mask for his dagger holding his evil dead mentor's soul. Jaboo really wanted that dagger. While Jack tried to explain the concept of loaning to Jaboo, the girls and crazy Uncle went into the cabin. Sharee and crazy Uncle got into social combat about him helping her with the problem of Adam and her grandmother. The end shot of it was that Sharee agreed to visit him and to bring her willing nieces and nephews with her in return for him paying the debt owed to Adam by her grandmother. Sharee really tried hard not to think about what that meant.

Meanwhile, outside, Jack was not having much luck explaining the concept of a loan to Jaboo. In fact, Jaboo was getting quite upset. It almost turned into a battle between them. Sharee and Michelle ran out of the cabin when crazy Uncle's eyes turned pure white and came onto a scene out of The Serpent and the Rainbow. All the dolls had turned towards Jack, Jaboo had called up a windstorm, and Jack was drawing a magic circle around himself. Sharee diffused the situation with some of her blood, luckily. Crazy Uncle then ordered Jack off his island and told him to never return. However, he liked Michelle and invited her back anytime (yay! for once it wasn't me pissing someone or something off!). Sharee didn't say anything to Jack but she could instantly tell that Jaboo had touched Jack in some way. I foresee some very interesting times for Jack in the next story arc.

After that fun, it was almost time for the duel. Before it happened though, Charlie visited Michelle's shop to offer terms for the duel. Basically it came down to Davi would be returned if Michelle won. If Arthur won, Sharee and Jack would have to leave New Orleans. Michelle refused to make that decision for them. She wasn't too surprised by the offer. White Court Vamps see all people as either food or lackeys to be controlled. No free will needed or desired.

Then it was duel time. Michelle spent the day meditating and praying (she is Catholic, a bit lapsed but still). She stopped at Temptations to see Blue. He wasn't there; so, she dropped off a letter to him basically asking him to keep an eye on Sharee and the shop and to help keep her and the shop safe. Then it was off to the meeting place, a cemetery of course. Very appropriate.

When we got there, the Archive, Kincaid, Arthur, and his cronies were waiting. There was also a hooded figure in the back; his champion we figured. Now, the three of us are not stupid. We all had a pretty good idea just who Arthur was going to have as his champion. And, we were right. The hood came off and Davi stood there, impassive and imposing. Sharee and Jack brought up the point that Davi could not be Arthur's champion because there is no way he would willingly agree to it. Through mind fuckery, however, Arthur thought he had gotten around that little problem. He was just so sure that Davi was his little bitch due to his mind control. During all this, Michelle just stood there quietly. She had fully expected this and made her peace with it. Her only statement: "I will not fight my friend." Arthur's smirk got a little bit wider.

Now it gets cinematic in the grand tradition. Just picture it. A full moon night in the cemetery. The Archive reluctantly agreeing that the trial would continue. Sharee and Jack standing there in support. Michelle resolute, her head held up defiantly. Davi, his face cold and calm, waiting before them. Cue the music score to swell to a crescendo. Then, Davi leans forward and whispers to Michelle. And what did he whisper? "Don't worry, I got this." Michelle ducked her head, hiding her smile at that.

Now, earlier in the day, Sharee had prayed to Saint Michael for Michelle, which was appropriate since she had been named for the saint. Suddenly, she smelled something like...baking cookies and heard a voice in her head saying, "Don't worry, everything will be alright." Then, "Merciful God, what has he done!" What Davi had done was to call on the demon possessed coin that Martin had given him. The demon, Kuzeal, broke the vamps mind fuckery and Davi very firmly told all there, "This duel is forfeit because I am NOT here of my own free will!" Mayhem erupted. The end shot was all the vamps except for Arthur were killed, even that little fucker Charlie. He went down first. Michelle was very pleased with that. So ended that story arc. One end note to it. When Michelle got home that night, she found her door open and an envelope on her coffee table. It was a check and a note saying, "This should cover the damage to your shop." It was signed, "From a former friend, Martin." Hmmmm.

We then picked up with our group about a month later. Things had been going pretty quietly. Davi was back with his gang. Jack was doing his hunting jobs. Michelle and Sharee were working and just getting on with life. Then came a call from Warder Weststone. He was planning a surprise party for Jack at Temptations. We all said we would be there and showed up wondering what was going on. To our surprise, Jack had been made the Warden of New Orleans. We were...happy? for him. Really, we were. Except for the fact that Jack would have to take steps against Davi because he was demon influenced and that trouble followed us around like a loyal bloodhound. Yeah, this was a good thing. Just to prove our misgivings, the party ended when a severed head was thrown into Temptations. It was Tbone's. Instant action. Davi, Jack, and Michelle got up and headed out the door. Poor Sharee was left there to deal with the head. Outside was a group of Ghuls, just waiting for a fight. Davi obliged them. However, it wasn't in the manner expected. He pulled out a Katana, which Jack and Michelle saw had a nail embedded into the pommel. Apparently Davi had beaten the demon possessed coin by becoming a Knight of the Cross and was now wielding one of the holy swords. We proceeded to kick ass.

After that, Jack performed a ritual on the head to let him magically see what Tbone had experienced right before he died. From that, they were able to learn that the newest Black Court Vampire had taken the reins of the Red Court lackies, the Ghuls. The game ended with Davi, Jack, and Sharee at Davi's house with the rest of the gang members. Sharee called the spirit of Tbone there to get his real name. His ghost showed up and decided that he really wanted to stick around. Meanwhile, Michelle had taken the head to a nearby cemetery to give it a proper burial. She headed home alone to grieve and, by doing that, she called Tbone's ghost to her. They chatted a bit, with Michelle telling Tbone he could stick around but there would be ground rules. NO spying on her when she was in the shower or getting dressed. He agreed...reluctantly.

So you had a bad day...part 2

Chloe and Calvin! head out to get medical attention for her. Now this means her secret is getting very, very thinly held. You see, her mother is Olivia, one of the old guard mages in game, and their family is extremely wealthy, like hundreds of millions of dollars wealthy. No one in game knows this; Chloe is just a street rat to them. Calvin! is a bit surprised and suspicious when Chloe's doctor turns out to be in the most exclusive neighborhood. After being seen, the receptionist informs Chloe that her records are gone. No big deal; that can happen. While there, Calvin! learns Chloe's last name, which is Cabot. Then they head to her dentist, also in that area. She gets treated and once again hears that there is absolutely no record of her. Not in the computer, no paper file. Now she is worried. They make a side trip to her bank and it's the same there. No account and no record of there ever being an account. Fuck.

I should also mention that poor Calvin! is now a walking bruise because of the vampire blood spell. The blood was pulled out of every pore, every orifice, everywhere. He is totally purple with red eyes. His explanation- a skin condition. Poor Calvin!.

Okay, we have Romulus with the dead animal. Chloe having her records being erased. What is going to happen to Calvin!? The two of them, Chloe and Calvin!, head to his house and find out. When they get there, they see his front door open and go in to find that someone has trashed the place. Everything has been destroyed; his furniture, his clothes, his carpets, his walls, everything. More alarming, Casey is not there. While on the phone to the police, Brand (a werewolf) shows up. He does a wolfy thing and tells the two of them what he has smelled. Calvin! and Chloe also promise any help needed to get Casey back. When that shit goes down, they will be in it.

After all of this, they both decide the best place to be would not be in their homes. They call Romulus and let him know they are picking him up and they all will be staying at the observatory. They pick him up and head up into the hills. They get there without incident (yay!). After relating all their various incidents, the two boys rest until Rebecca can get there. Chloe calls her mother and, instead of getting the usual brush off (they have issues that are slowly being mended), she is asked for her cell number and told her mother will call her back. Her mother calls back and tells Chloe that the company is under attack, to stay at the observatory, and not to do anything stupid. Right. Finally Rebecca shows up and does heal Chloe and Romulus. Following that, she lets the three of them in on what's going down. Apparently a new type of Entropy is being used to erase records and such. This is what her and Olivia and some others are fighting against. The group then tells her about what has happened and she uses her computer to compile photo sketches of the two Nephandi, Shade and Petite. She then asks them to work on the vampire angle and to gather as much information about what is going on as possible.

To get information about the vampire attack, Romulus, Calvin!, and Chloe head over to Monique's place. They ambush her just as she is leaving. She plays innocent but agrees to let the three of them follow her to a vampire meeting at Lethal's place. They get there and Lethal comes out to greet them. He tells them they will be allowed to stay if, and only if, they agree to back him up. There was a few tense moments when Calvin! relayed the information that he used sunlight on the attacking vampires and that Chloe had turned one of them to dust. Lethal gets Father John (a crazy vampire priest) to verify what he said. When he does, it kind of creeps Lethal out a bit. They go into the meeting and learn that Sabbat vampires have made a move into California territory. They were the ones that attacked at the rave. His orders are explicit; warn the vampires in every territory, kill any unknown vampire on sight, learn where they are hiding. Lethal also points the three of us out and tells every vampire there that we are on their side in this fight. Now for the fun part of the meeting.

Chloe goes to talk to Lethal  about the vampires and is a weirded out by his attitude. They really don't like each other but he is trying to be his own special brand of charming. He calls her sweet cheeks and even slaps her on her ass. Through gritted teeth, she informs him to never do that again. To not touch her, not ogle her, not even look at her. He acts confused and says he thought she liked him. She asks him where in the hell he got that idea. They both realize where at the same time and yell out, "CALVIN!" Meanwhile, Calvin! retreats to the bedroom with Monique and proceeds to break up with her in a very awkward manner. She seems rather incredulous that HE would break up with HER. Her parting shot was rather harsh. She basically told him that he was the lousiest lay she ever had (which is really bad considering she is a 300 year old vampire whore) and walks out. Now Chloe corners him about the whole Lethal thing and let's him know not to ever do anything like that again. He does get a bit of good news though. Chloe tells him, that since he broke up with Monique, she would now be able to sleep with him. During all this this, Romulus is speaking with Christian about all that is happening and keeping him at arms length. The blood drinking offer is still out there, after all. Then, poor Calvin! had to deal with Lethal. Calvin! made an offer to Lethal about sharing blood and quintessence. But Lethal wasn't buying any of it. He gave Calvin! an earful about how he knew Calvin! didn't like him and that he had feelings too. Calvin! eventually somewhat made amends and the meeting broke up.

The session ended there and it's back to Dresden next Sunday. Go Matt!

So you had a bad day

A quick note: I decided to break my blog into two separate ones. This one, All Dysfunctions Normal, will be exclusively for gaming. I think it's appropriate since our games seem to run on various levels of dysfunction: not the GM's, they are awesome, but definitely the cast of characters. It will also be good for catching up any players who couldn't be at the current gaming session. Just trying to make it easier for everyone!

Okay, onto the night's excitement...and it was exciting. Considering it took place over approximately one 24 hour period, we managed to get a lot done and have a lot done to us. Let's get started.

We started with Calvin!, Romulus, and Chloe deciding what to do after the Nephandi Shade had unraveled her spell. Chloe and Calvin! decided that clubbing would be a great idea, while Romulus decided he had to head home. It must suck to have to work in the morning. On the plus side, going home would give him the chance to contact Rebecca and give her all the information we got on Shade's vehicle. So, they parted, Romulus heading to his apartment and Chloe and Calvin! going to Das Bunker. There was one small thing, as they were walking away, Chloe felt watched for a just a split second. However, it was gone so fast, she couldn't tell who it was or anything. She didn't recognize the 'feel' of the contact.

Unfortunately, Romulus had a nasty surprise waiting for him when he made to his place. There was an eviscerated...animal...of some sort in front of his door. Using magic, he was able to get a bead on whomever had left it and was able to follow him. By using his goggles, Romulus was able to keep the intruder in sight and to follow him. Eventually, he got close enough to tell him to stop or he, Romulus, would shoot him. The intruder turned and did...something. He then turned to continue to run away. Romulus used a telekinetic spell on him to basically freeze him into place. However, by using Spirit, the guy was able to side-step into the Umbra and get away. Luckily, by using Correspondence, Romulus was able to get an excellent picture of the guy before he escaped. So, Romulus heads back to his place, where he got a neighbor to call the police for him. They came and took the report about the dead animal but didn't get to excited about it. Romulus lives in a bad area and the police had better things to do. Finally getting into his place, he was able to send off the information to Rebecca. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to get any sleep before work the next day. He was able to hear back from Rebecca though. The license number, make, and model of the car turned up nothing. There were no records of it.

We then cut back to Chloe and Calvin!, who had made it to Das Bunker. They were having a great time. There was a bit of drinking, smoking of illegal substance, and a bit of hand/body contact between the two of them. Chloe even kissed Calvin! a few times, which they both seemed to enjoy. After the club shut down, they decided to head off to the underground rave Chloe knew about. After getting there, they actually did a bit of investigating before they got down to partying by checking the rave out for the Nephandi they are looking for. No Nephandi types, so let the party begin. Alas, the party didn't go on too long before both Calvin! and Chloe felt a tremor in the building, like huge vehicles going by. Naturally, because she is a) underage and b) experienced in illegal rave going, Chloe's first thought was 'police'. Then the power was cut and the warehouse plunged into darkness. Instant chaos. Not police tactics. The doors then burst open and figures came in, some with glowing eyes. Chloe's first thought at seeing that was Technocracy, but Calvin! saw with Prime they were vampires. The vampires started attacking the rave goers and things turned very nasty, very fast.

Since quite a bit happened in a very short amount of time, I am going to condense it a bit. The vampires attacked the crowd. Calvin! had used Forces on one of the cattle prods they had to make it discharge into the vamp using it. Chloe used Entropy to find the least entropic, or safest way out. She then put a hex on the vamp holding the taser, so that he would drop it/it would fall into alcohol and start a fire (fire will kill vampires). Then Calvin! busted out the big guns and created sunlight in the warehouse. Since it was fueled by Prime, it did massive damage. Lots of vamps were dusted. By using magic, though, Calvin! had drawn the ire of a vampire who used his own brand of magic to pull about 3 pints of blood out of Calvin!. The vampire magic user didn't live though. Calvin! used the fire Chloe created to make him nice and toasty. The two of them managed to get up to the second floor window and make their escape. However, they promptly ran into two vampires coming from the back of the building. Chloe said 'fuck it' and hit the one holding the gun with full force Entropy Rend Pattern. One Vampire Turned to dust. The other raced by and totally punched her, breaking her nose, cracking a tooth, and knocking her flat on her ass.

The vampire attack had really pissed Calvin! off. He called Monique and was yelling at her about it. When she figured out what he was saying, she hung up on him. Pissed off even more, he called Lethal, who also hung up on Calvin! when he figured out what Calvin! was saying. The only good thing that came out of this was Calvin! finally agreed to break up with the vampire bitch. Getting to the observatory, Calvin! fired off a terse email to Rebecca stating GET HERE NOW. She replied FUCK YOU. While he was showering, Chloe sent off another email asking for Rebecca's help, saying that they were in a fight, were hurt, and apologizing for Calvin's! email. Thank god, it worked. Then it was time to get medical help for Chloe.

So ends part one of this exciting day. Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion.

The return of Calvin!

Since Sunday is fast approaching and that means another gaming session, I really should write about what happened last week. We took a break from Dresden and went back to the Mage game. And that means the return of the uberslut...Calvin! One caveat though, it has been almost a week, so some of the events may be out of place. Damn my failing memory.

Let's get some background going here. Playing in game are four characters. We have Nate- an older gentleman (40's and a doctor) who has a massive library fetish, a huge father hen complex, and tries to avoid danger. There is Romulus- a steampunk (20ish and coffee shop worker) loner type who loves technology, loathes vampires, and generally doesn't get excited about much. Next is Chloe- a combo indie/punk/hippie (18 and lives off a trust fund) who lives for raves/clubbing, constantly acts before she thinks, and has a fairly big secret. Last, but certainly not least, is Calvin!- a famous B movie star (20's and rich) who is a massive slut, lives for getting into trouble, and is charming as hell. Just for the record, I will always be using the exclamation point after Calvin's! name because that IS Calvin!.

Last Sunday, we started the main story after getting through the prelude and it was very interesting. It started with Nate, Romulus, and Chloe at the observatory (their base of operations) after learning from the old guard mages who they would be fighting and that they had to basically stop the destruction of the world. Calvin! wasn't there for that. He had been in China filming his instant classic Flying Fists of Fury 3 or something like that. In order to get more info, Romulus contacted Rebecca (another mage) asking her for some info about the big fights that had gone down in decades past. We need info and allies and that seemed a good place to start. Chloe stayed out of that since Rebecca really doesn't like her for some reason. Chloe was off in another part of the house working on a private question. That leads into the return of Calvin!. He came to the observatory after a stop at his house. I should mention his houseguest, a 16 year old werewolf girl named Casey. We ran into her at a club and she just kind of moved in with him. Nate also lives with him. Back to what happened. Calvin! gets to the observatory and gets filled in on what has happened and what we have learned. The best part, he gives gifts to everyone and promises to go clubbing with Chloe that night.

Sidenote- Chloe will never admit it to him but she really likes Calvin! and wouldn't mind getting with him. However, there are a few obstacles to that. More on that later.

Back to the story. Here is where the chain of events gets fuzzy but I will do my best. Romulus and Calvin! decide to visit the one name that Rebecca gave them, a Bastet by the name of Cassandra Wilson. She was involved in the fight that took place during the 80's. She is also a well-known porn director, specializing in hardcore SM. The meeting went quite well and they did get a name of a vamp who had fought alongside her. Calvin!, being the Calvin!slut that he is, just had to try and seduce her. It somewhat worked. She was interested but in a predatory way. If he pursues it, she will definitely put the hurt on him. Almost forgot, before sunrise, Calvin! called his current love interest, a 300 year old vampire by the name of Monique. Chloe does not approve of this, as vamps are never up to any good, and gets him in trouble by making it seem that she was in bed with him. Calvin! is not amused and neither is Monique. She hangs up on Calvin!.

The day turns to night without much more happening. That night, Calvin! goes to visit his love and finds his vampire uberfan, Lethal, there as well. He eventually makes nice with Monique (yuck) and let's her drink from him...bad Calvin! I mean really, he wants to sleep with Chloe, really really bad. However, until he gives up his vampire whore there is no chance of that happening. Which makes Chloe kind of sad. He also gets back at Chloe by telling Lethal, who she cannot stand, that she is interested in him. Meanwhile, Romulus goes to meet the vampire by the name of Christian. He is the one that Cassandra said to go see. He is also in the porn business. While there, Christian makes Romulus an offer- let Christian drink from Romulus and he will give Romulus information. Not only does Romulus say no, he says hell no. Luckily, a fight was averted and Romulus was able to leave. No information gathered but the door to Christian is still there.

While all this was going down, Chloe was hitting a few of the clubs looking for three Nephandi (bad mages) they had met in the prelude part of the game. By sheer luck (yay....right), she runs into a young man by the name of Brad. He overhears her asking about the female mage, who calls herself Petite. He doesn't recognize the name but he does recognize the description. Chloes finds out from him that he ran into this girl at Sadie's, a very nasty, very hardcore SM club. There she goes by the name of Morte. After giving Chloe this information, he asks her on a date, which is very flattering. She says yes and they exchange numbers. Take that Calvin!.

With the name of the club in hand, Chloe meets up with Romulus and Calvin!. They head over to Sadie's and realize it's worse then they thought. The place just felt all sorts of wrong. It had pain, evil, fear, and despair oozing from it. Once inside, they find an out of the way alcove and Chloe casts a time spell. She knows about when Brad's friend disappeared and searches for that specific time frame. She finds it and watches what happened. She sees Brad and his friend get there and sees his friend leave with Petite, aka Morte. She leaves the club, to keep the time scene going and to see what happened. The spell leads her to where Shade, another Nephandi, was waiting in a car for the two of them. He senses someone (Chloe) watching them and manages to unravel her spell but not before she is able to pass on to Romulus and Calvin! the make, model, and license plate number of his car.

The evening ended there and will be picked up tomorrow. I can't wait!

Under pressure...part 2

To continue:

After her back room blows up, Michelle goes in and pulls the unconscious Sharee out. For a few seconds, Michelle just stands there, caught between wanting to help Sharee and fighting her 200+ year old creole bred urge for revenge. She definitely wants blood. She manages to control herself with the help of Jim (a troll customer who had been in earlier and had heard the explosion). Because of KTS, Michelle knows he is good and honorable and to be trusted. Since they can't take Sharee to the hospital (readers of the Dresden books know that wizards and technology do NOT mix...at all), the two of them gather up Sharee and head to Jack's. When they get there and are waiting for Jack to show up, Michelle gets on the phone to Blue and totally loses it. She is beyond pissed. Because he brought Jack into White Court politics, there was an attack against Sharee on neutral ground...on HER neutral ground. That is beyond a big no no. Michelle basically gave him no choice; he would have to give her whatever information she needed so she can skin every one of the White Court bastards involved. With the ominous promise of "we will be discussing this later", Michelle hangs up and helps get Sharee into Jack's apartment. Luckily, she wasn't hurt too bad, just some cuts, bruises, and a backache. When Sharee woke up, she was able to tell everyone what had happened and the message that Arthur- the White Vamp Lord - had given her. He wanted his mask back, the one that Jack in the previous game session had stolen. After a phone call to Warden Weststone to set up a meeting, the three of them head out to Temptations, where the meeting is taking place.

Once there, Michelle makes a formal complaint about the Accords violation to the Warden. Basically that means we are waiting for it to go through the appropriate channels and then we will hear back. Then Sharee got into her usual argument with him about his alcoholism, which was rather amusing. After that, Jack and Sharee went home and Michelle stayed to have that little chat with Blue. It took a couple of rounds of social combat (which I won! And, I didn't even need to play the "we're having sex" card!) but Michelle eventually got what she needed- the address of the vamp who brought the curse/trap into her shop. Though, she did have to promise Blue she wouldn't use it since he didn't want her to get hurt or killed, which was really sweet. She didn't have a problem promising that since she has a few ideas on how to get around that particular restriction. Then they had sex...sober sex this time and it was GREAT. The afterglow, however, was cut short by a scream from outside. Getting outside, they found the bouncer unconscious and a dead girl, who had been gutted, on the sidewalk in front of the club. Not wanting to but needing to, Michelle called Sharee and Jack back down there. Which turned out to be a good thing. Jack recognized her from the escort service he had been to while getting dirt on the Lord of the White Vamps. He was also to see that there was tear into our world from the Nevernever, which was how she was dumped. Which placed it firmly into the lap of Sharee's boss, the Fey Lord. Earlier, Sharee had let him know that the attack against his business wasn't aimed towards him but at our little group, mostly Jack and that it came from the White Court Vampires.

Waking the next morning, our three heroes set out to see just what they could fuck up that day. Jack went out to Sharee's house because they both realized that mask the White Vamp Lord wanted back was not picked up by either of them after their fight with the White Vamp flunkie. He didn't find the mask. However he did manage to get threatened by Sharee's mother, who was armed with a shotgun. Luckily Sharee was able to rein in her mother and they found out that the mask had been picked up by her crazy uncle and it was in his possession. It gets better. As Sharee was leaving, her mother commented about her friend (Davi- the player character currently in a coma) in the hospital being released. That was not a good thing to hear. So, off to Michelle's they went, who was blissfully unaware of anything and just cleaning up her shop. She also mailed off two invoices to the White Vamps one of the estimate for fixing her shop and the other for replacing her inventory. Most of the rest of the game was basically running about. Michelle verified that Davi had been released from the hospital, into the care of his "uncle", his "uncle" who was the White Vamp Lord. Sharee and Jack attempted to locate Davi by using a location spell but it was blocked. Michelle went to set up a meeting on neutral ground with Arthur the White Vamp Lord. The game ended with all of them at Temptations having a meeting with the Archive, who basically was setting the ground rules for what would happen with the formal complaint Michelle made. It would be a duel to the death, which she, the Archive, would referee. However, the White Court could settle the invoices that Michelle sent (which would be for the best since there is no way in hell Michelle can beat a White Court Champion in battle and she wouldn't ask anyone else to do it for her) and the matter would be considered closed.

So, where does that leave us? Basically fucked. Trying to get all this straight, Lana and I sat down Tuesday and figured out all of our threats, allies, and possible threats or allies currently in the game. This is what we came up with:

Threats

Martin- which also includes the coin containing the Fallen Angel he gave to Davi
A second Black Court Vamp- who has just shown up in town
The Ghuls- attacking the gang members- and whomever is sending them
Red Court Vamps- our main guess for who is sending out the Ghuls
1/3 of the White Court Vamps- House Skavis...basically all of them
Adam- the Fey Lord trying to fuck Sharee
Sharee's Crazy Uncle- he has the mask we need and not sure if we can get it back
Jack's possessed dagger- that could get him killed, esp if turned into the White Council

Allies

Jim- the honorable troll/carpenter
Warden Weststone- even though he is drunk most of the time
Lucas Sims- Minuteman leader who investigates weird shit that happens

Possible Threats or Allies (unsure)

Tommy- Adam's son, he wants to date Sharee
Blue- no love for House Skavis but he IS a White Court Vamp. His possible feelings for Michelle may keep him on our side.
Us- really, no explanation needed here. If there is trouble, we will make it worse. If there isn't any trouble, we will create it somehow.

Next week, we take a break from Dresden to play the Mage game. Cannot wait!
